THE WOMEN ROLE IN THERAVADA BUDDHISM OF BUDDHA’S ERA

Abstract

At present, the equality between women, men and freedom human dignity appears in civilized countries around the world. There is a movement for gender equality which is consistent with article 27 of the Thai Constitution states that “A person is equal in law, with men and women having equal rights and liberties. The equality and measures that the State established to eliminate obstacles to encourage persons to exercise their rights or liberties like any other person for the protection of children, women, elders the disabled and the under privileged without regard to discrimination”. The causing changes in many dimensions such as granting women’s right to vote and other freedoms widely by having an international organization such as the United Nations. The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women was established in 1979. Its aim is to protect the rights of women to have equal rights with men. Therefore, the role of women from the past to the present has not changed from the original. Especially the role of being behind successes in many dimensions of many people which will present the role of women in Theravada Buddhism on the era of the Buddha, namely women and Theravada Buddhism, the role of women in Theravada Buddhism, the role of Buddhism Mother's role as wife, the role of Buddhism, role of morality that is considered exemplary and the role of preaching Buddhism.
