The Development of a Local Curriculum on Thai-Yuan Culture in Ban Khu Bua of Watsanamchai (Sanamchaiprachanukul) School in Ratchaburi Province by Participatory Action Research

Abstract

The development of a local curriculum in this research was to develop a curriculum in accordance with the problem condition and the needs of  Watsanamchai (Sanamchaiprachanukul) School because the school did not use local knowledge in teaching and learning management. There was still no local curriculum yet, Therefore, the researcher is interested in developing a local curriculum. About Thai-yuan culture at Ban Khu Bua. The objectives of this research were: 1) to study local knowledge about Thai-Yuan Culture in Ban Khu Bua  of Ratchaburi Province, 2) todevelop local curriculum on Thai-Yuan Culture in Ban Khu Bua of Watsanamchai (Sanamchaiprachanukul) School in Ratchaburi Province by Participatory Action Research. The target area was Khu Bua Subdistrict, Meang District, Ratchaburi Province and Watsanamchai (Sanamchaiprachanukul) School. The target groups were 1 school administrator, 3 teachers, 38 students in Grade 1 – 2 and Grade 3 – 4  of  Watsanamchai (Sanamchaiprachanukul) School, 2 community leaders, 3 local wisdoms, 2 Board of Education and 2 student’s parent, total 51 people. The research instruments were 1) Community needs survey, 2) interview form, and 3) achievement test. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation. And the method of content analysis.

            The results of this study showed that:

1. The local knowledge about coconut in Thai-Yuan Culture in Ban Khu Bua of Watsanamchai (Sanamchaiprachanukul) School in Ratchaburi Province was 1) History of Thai-Yuan at  Ban Khu Bua, 2) Ban Khu Bua Landmark, 3) Thai-Yuan language, 4) Tradition of Thai-Yuan Ban Khu Bua, 5) Thai-yuan traditional food at Ban Khu Bua, 6) Thai-yuan dress at Ban Khu Bua and 7) cloth Thai-Yuan Ban Khu Bua.


2. The development of the local curriculum of Thai-Yuan Culture in Ban Khu Bua of Watsanamchai (Sanamchaiprachanukul) School in Ratchaburi Province  consisted of the structure of the curriculum, local learning substance, learning units, and learning management plan. All of these were suitable and consistent with the local environment for the students. After using the curriculum, Grade 1-2 students had higher academic achievement after school than before. accounted for 29.21 percent, Grade 3-4 students had higher academic achievement after school than before. accounted for 32.98 percent. And The results of the curriculum evaluation by those involved found that the learners saw the importance of Thai-yuan culture at Ban Khu Bua. able to apply the knowledge gained from this learning in life.
