The Synthesis of Research on Student Care and Support Systems : An Applying of Meta – analysis

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to synthesize the characteristics of researches on the student care and support system, 2) to construct a predicitve equation index of the student care system, and 3) to synthesize the suggestions for the student care system.  The population were 80 research reports that selected by using the criterion of this research.  The study was conducted in three phases. Phase 1: a survey of the researches. Phase 2: constructing the predictive equation of effect size for the student care system. Phase 3: synthesizing suggestions for the student care system.

The research findings were as follows:

1. A synthesis of the characteristics of the researches on student care systems showed that the 80 finished researches had 581 standard indices, student care systems most, the variables with effect on modified correlation coefficient most were: a questionnare instrument
2. Good predicitors of the standard index on student care systems revealed that the factor with effect on the standard index most was administrators (0.789). These could predict the effect size 47.90%, with multiple correlation coefficient value 0.696, and with statistical significance at level .05.
3. It was suggested for development of the student care system, that the Educational Service Area Office and schools should study, promote and follow up to evaluate the student care system continually together with conducting a study looking into the supportive factors and possible obstacles which may affect success of the student care system in order to use the data for developing the student care system.
