THE STUDIES TRADITIONAL THI YUAN MUSIC, SAO HAI DISTRICT, SARABURI

Abstract

          The objectives of this research are: 1) to study historical development and musical knowledge of Tai Yuan community in Sao Hai District, Saraburi Province; 2) to analyze exposure of music culture to Tai Yuan community in Sao Hai District, Saraburi Province. The area of the study is in the specific area mentioned above. Data was collected by both formal and un informal interviews verified by committee of experts. Informants were selected from villagers, leaders, and local wisdom elites. The 7 informants consisted of 3 villagers from Ton Tan community, Saraburi Province; 1 abbot from Wat Ton Tan, Sao Hai District, Saraburi Province; 1 chairman from the Council of Culture of Sao Hai District, Saraburi Province; 1 chairman from the Council of Culture of Ton Tan Sub-district, Sao Hai District, Saraburi Province; and 1 local wisdom elite. The data of music culture of Tai Yuan community was collected from the observation of community’s activities and analyzed with qualitative method.
          The results showed that, the music culture of Tai Yuan people of Sao Hai District, Saraburi Province can be divided into 3 categories: 1) Music culture that has been passed down from the past, namely Choi song, local lullabies, and Klong Toeng; 2) Music culture received from nearby communities, namely, Rum Tone game, drumming of Klong Pen and Klong Sutr during Lent; 3) Local music received from northern Thailand; 4) Modern music culture that affects the feeling of Thai Yuan ethnic group of Sao Hai District, Saraburi Province, namely, "Tai Yuan Yai Phaen Din" which mentioned the migration of Tai Yuan from Chiang Saen (Yonok) in the north to the central region of Thailandd
