THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENGLISH READING ABILITY THROUGH READING EXERCISES ALONG WITH MULTIMEDIA FOR GRADE 1 STUDENTS

Abstract

     The current research aimed to develop and evaluate the efficiency of English reading practices with multimedia for Grade 1 students based on the efficient criteria of 75/75. Students’ learning achievement were compared in forms of pretest and posttest. In addition, students’ satisfactions towards using the English reading practices with multimedia for Grade 1 students were assessed. The research sample was twenty Grade 1 students, who were selected employing cluster RANDOM SAMPLING, from Phanthip Wittaya School, Wiang Sa District, Nan Province. The research was conducted in the first semester of academic year 2019. The research instruments were, firstly, the English reading practices with multimedia for Grade 1 students that showed a good level of accuracy and appropriateness. The second research instrument was a learning achievement test for English reading efficiency of Grade 1 students that showed its reliability at .75. The third instrument was satisfaction questionnaire towards using the English reading practices with multimedia for Grade 1 students that showed its content validity value at 0.08 and its construct validity value at 0.07. The data were statistically analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation E1, E2, and t-test.
     The research findings were showed that Grade 1 students’ English reading efficiency were 80.43/81.00. After implementing the English reading practices with multimedia, students’ learning achievement, namely the posttest, was statistically significantly higher at .05 Additionally, Grade 1 students highly satisfied with using the English reading practices with multimedia.
