SITUATIONS, NEEDS AND GUIDELINES FOR DEVELOPING ACADEMIC WORKS DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC (COVID-19) OF SCHOOLS UNDER THE OFFICE OF NAKHON PHANOM MUNICIPALITY

Abstract

The purposes of the current research were to: 1) study about the current and desirable situations of the academic works of schools under the Office of Nakhon Phanom Municipality during the Coronavirus pandemic, 2) explore the needs for developing academic works during the Coronavirus pandemic, and 3) develop guidelines for constructing academic works during the Coronavirus pandemic. The research samples were 185 school administrators, and teachers. The sample size specification was calculated employing Krejcie & Morgan’s table. The samples were selected by Simple Random Sampling. Four questionnaires were used as the research instruments including 1) a questionnaire for the current situations, 2) a questionnaire for the desirable situations, 3) a structured-interview form and 4) an evaluation form of suitability and possibility for developing guidelines to construct academic works of the schools. The statistics employed were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the index priority needs index (PNI modified).
The results were as follows: 1) The current situations of academic works were at the high level ( = 3.69), and the overall desirable situations of academic works of the schools were also at the high level ( = 4.48). 2) According to the needs for developing academic works, it was found that the Educational Curriculum Development of the institutions showed the highest mean scores (PNI modified = 0.244). However, the promotion and support of constructing academic works show the lowest mean scores (PNI modified = 0.153). 3) The guidelines for developing academic works were collected and revealed that the overall suitability was at the highest level and the possibility was at the high level. Moreover, the details were mentioned as follows: In terms of the Educational Curriculum Development of the institutions, a brief curriculum manual should be prepared to describe any changes within the curriculum depending on the current situations. In addition, the development of instructional methods should be designed based on the school context the safety of students during the pandemic of COVID-19.
