PEOPLE’S PARTICIPATION IN ELDER’S WISDOM MANAGEMENT FOR LIVE-LONG LEARNING IN MUANG SAKAEO MUNICIPALITY, SAKAEO PROVINCE

Abstract

This research article aimed at (1) studying elder’s wisdom in Muang Sakaeo Municipality through communities’ participation (2) studying knowledge and wisdom of elders of Muang Sakaeo Municipality and (3) developing elders’ knowledge and wisdom for their live-lone learning. This research employed people’s focused-groups, researcher observations, and interviews. The result showed that the area of Muang Sakaeo had outstanding elder’s wisdoms, that is, in handicrafts, food and food transformation, agriculture, recreation, community fund and economy, religion and tradition, and herbs and Thai medicine. Regarding knowledge management, the researcher gathered knowledge on playing Thai traditional drum (Klong-yao) and pass on this knowledge to young people by cooperation between Muang Sakaeo Municipality, schools, and communities. This knowledge was utilized via the establishment of Klong-yao band, Klong-yao performances in many traditional occasions. Many activities related to Klong-yao were used as guidelines for human development by encouraging young people to spend their free times wisely. In addition, this can be enhanced as a cooperation on Klong-yao performance to be communities’ participations, integration into municipality’s projects, school and elder’s school courses, earning for young people to support their education, and further support the communities’ live-long learning in the long run.
