Zero-Waste School Management

Abstract

Schools, as institutions responsible for educating and instilling awareness in youth who represent the nation's future, must implement zero-waste school management. This requires  committed and determined leadership from administrators who must develop policies and action plans, create curricula, and provide knowledge to both personnel and students. Schools need to establish learning foundations for waste management that align with community lifestyles and coordinate networks to ensure successful implementation. Waste management should be conducted using the 3Rs principles: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, along with NAMMIN management approach. Importantly, the results must be extended to the community through students, as students themselves are integral members of the community. When both schools and communities implement these practices continuously, sustainability will be achieved.
