Abstract

The Angklung is a distinctive shaken idiophone characterized by its single-pitch per unit construction. Consequently, successful performance necessitates a high degree of individual proficiency and collective synchronization, requiring the precise integration of psychomotor control and aural discrimination. However, traditional Thai music pedagogy often lacks a systematic framework for sequential skill acquisition, hindering learners from achieving precision and mastering complex performance levels.

The objectives of this research were: 1) to develop instructional plans for Angklung performance skills by applying Simpson’s Psychomotor Domain targeting an efficiency criterion of 80/80 and 2) to assess learner satisfaction with this pedagogical intervention. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) methodology the study involved a target group of 25 Grade 8 students at Ganluangwitayakhom School selected via purposive sampling. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and the efficiency index E1/E2 . The findings reveal that the developed instructional plans achieved an efficiency index E1/E2 of 85.52/85.76 surpassing the established benchmark. This reflects that a sequential training process concretely reinforces skill acquisition. Furthermore, overall student satisfaction was at the highest level  = 4.60, S.D. = 0.48 particularly regarding the clarity of the learning process. The application of Simpson’s taxonomy proved to be a potent pedagogical instrument effectively elevating practical competence and fostering positive attitudes toward Thai music education. This approach serves as a significant guideline for future innovations in music performance instruction.
