Abstract

The purposes of this classroom action research were to 1) develop inquiry-based learning activities supplemented with mind mapping in science for Grade 6 students 2) study and compare the science learning achievement of Grade 6 students before and after learning through inquiry-based learning supplemented with mind mapping and 3) investigate the students’ satisfaction towards inquiry-based learning supplemented with mind mapping. The sample consisted of eight Grade 6 students. The sample was selected by cluster random sampling. The research design was a one-group pretest–posttest classroom action research. The research instruments included: inquiry-based learning lesson plans supplemented with mind mapping in science; science achievement test and student satisfaction questionnaire toward inquiry-based learning supplemented with mind mapping. The implement-tation period lasted three weeks, with six hours per week, totaling 18 hours. The data were analyzed using mean, percentage, standard deviation, one-sample t-test, and dependent-sample t-test. The findings revealed that: 1) The inquiry-based learning activities supplemented with mind mapping in science developed through classroom action research achieved a process and outcome efficiency of 80.21/84.79, which exceeded the specified criterion of 75/75. 2) The mean science learning achievement scores of Grade 6 students after learning were significantly higher than those before learning at the .05 level of significance and the mean science learning achievement of Grade 6 students after receiving inquiry-based learning supplemented with mind mapping was significantly higher than the criterion level of 75 percent at the .05 level of significance. 3) The students’ satisfaction toward inquiry-based learning supplemented with mind mapping in science was at the highest level.
