A Study of Prospective Employers' Expectations and Suggestions Regarding the Development of the Bachelor of Arts Curriculum in English for Education, Religion, and Culture
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aimed to: (1) investigate employers’ expectations toward graduates of the Bachelor of Arts Program in English for Education, Religion, and Culture, (2) compare expectations across different types of organizations, (3) explore employers’ suggestions for curriculum development, and (4)propose concrete strategies for curriculum improvement. A mixed-methods design was employed. The quantitative data were collected from 30 employers using a five-point Likert scale questionnaire. The qualitative data were gathered through semi-structured in-depth interviews. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, and thematic content analysis. The findings revealed that employers had the highest level of expectations in all domains, particularly in professional ethics, teamwork skills, and English communication proficiency. Statistically significant differences in expectations were found in specific areas; for example, religious organizations and NGOs placed greater emphasis on religious and intercultural knowledge. Thematic analysis of qualitative data yielded five key recommendations: (1) enhancing real-world practicum experience, (2) promoting ethics and morality, (3) strengthening digital and soft skills, (4) integrating interdisciplinary learning, and (5) organizing intercultural community service projects. Policy recommendations include revising the curriculum to emphasize active learning, incorporating subjects related to religion and culture, fostering practical English skills, and forming partnerships with employers to produce graduates ready for the complex demands of today’s multicultural society.
