The Policies and Measures to Preventing and Solving Drug Problems of Thai Sangha.

Abstract

The study of policies and measures to preventing and solving drug problems of monks in Thai society, that is a part of the research on topic “The promoting of Thai Sangha Network for the problem of drugs preventing.” This research aims to create awareness, surveillance and drug problem solving of Thai Sangha. This  Research is mix-method from documentary and qualitative research based on the policies of the Sangha Council, and to collected data from  Community and Monks in 12 Province of Thailand. The results found that.

                 Thai Sangha Supreme Council has policies and measures to prevent and solve the drug problems, The policies had many of resolutions in the past 30 years, such as the Sangha Council Resolution 321/2001 on “Preventing Drug problems”, to support abbot and local governor cooperated to solved drug prevention, and approved  temple as a center for aid and rehabilitation for drug addicts on  Buddhist principles. The preventing and solving measure drug problems of  Thai Sangha in Communities and Provinces has a guideline for implementation, which is the use of "Buddhist principles and Law", that is combine with the creation of preventive measures in temple, community, and province, such as the screening applicants and checking individual backgrounds. Thai Sangha support to providing and training according to the Buddhist Dharma, and Discipline Training on drug knowledge for monks, to Support proactive health screening and Surveillance of drugs from entering to temple with public participation, to Creating the learning area for preventing and solving drug problems to be “Healthy Temple”, and promote  cooperation networks on drug prevention and resolution.
