FARMER'S PARTICIPATORY PIG FARM MANAGEMENT AND SWINE BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS IN THE AREA OF CHIANG MAI - LAMPHUN

The study entitled “Farmer's participatory pig farm management and swine business organizations In the area of Chiang Mai – Lamphun”, has the main objectives, namely, i) to study the problems of farm management of pig farms and swine business organizations in the area of Chiang Mai – Lamphun; ii) to develop farm management for farmers and swine business organizations in the area of Chiang Mai – Lamphun; and iii) to introduce a new sustainable integrated farm management model for farmers and swine business organizations in the area of Chiang Mai – Lamphun. The qualitative research was carried out in this study. The target group used in this study consisted of 30 people. The tool used for data collection was In-depth Interview and focus group discussion. The collected data analysis employed content analysis technique.
The results of the research can be summarized as follows:
- 1. Farmers' pig farm management problems and farm business organizations in the area of Chiang Mai and Lamphun from the study of pig rearing in the Chiang Mai - Lamphun area revealed that farmers who farmed pigs in Chiang Mai - Lamphun provinces tended to have pig farming, which was divided into 2 types: independent rearing and raising with swine business organizations in the form of Contract Farming, Most of which are contract farming. There will be a farm to raise pigs clearly separate types of rearing. From the in-depth study, it was found that pig farmers faced problems in managing pig farms and some had to go out of business, both independent farmers and farmers participating in the Contract Farming project. In summary, the main problems in 6 areas are as follows: 1) Funding problems such as inaccessibility to various financial institutions; 2) Problems with the management system and farm management, such as problems in the raising system; 3) Problems technical knowledge most farmers will receive knowledge from government agencies or groups of farmers together; 4) problems in the market mechanism, farmers do not understand the holistic market mechanism and does not have its own distribution channel; 5) Environmental problems, management of various wastes such as waste water, odors, and 6) problems in information technology, farmers do not focus on developing or learning technology to improve the pig production process.
- A new sustainable integrated farm management model for farmers and farm business organizations in the area of Chiang Mai – Lamphun indicated that there are 6 management styles, namely, 1) capital model, Business organizations or financial institutions provide funding sources for farmers in pig farming. 2) Farm management and management system model, farm management techniques to increase production efficiency accurate records are recorded to analyze production efficiency. 3) Knowledge-technical model, business organizations must prepare manuals or media on pig farm management that cover all dimensions. 4) Marketing mechanism model, Government or business organizations support the integration of farm farmers such as cooperative groups, pig farmers' groups, or associations, in order to gain strength and bargaining power and create your own sales channel. 5) Environmental model, there must understand the environmental, social and community impacts caused by pig farming that do not meet the standards for the management of farm waste such as pig manure, wastewater, odors and flies, etc..; and 6) the model of information technology, recording and storing data of production efficiency from farms, farmers can design a program for farmers to record by using the Application in which farmers can record data every day and make information in real time.
