DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF PALM LEAF PLA TA PIAN PRODUCTS FROM WISDOM TO SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The objectives of research entitled “Design and development of the Palm Leaf Pla Ta Pian Products from Wisdom to Sustainable Community Development” were: i) to study the area contexts and creative products from the wisdom by using resources in community areas; ii) to study product development process of the Palm Leaf Pla Ta Pian; and iii) to present product design guidelines for the Palm Leaf Pla Ta Pian group, Phu Khao Thong Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The informants used in this study consisted of 20 people, namely local administrative organization administrators, religious leaders, community leaders, village scholars, experts, trainers, and members of the Palm Leaf Pla Ta Pian group of Phu Khao Thong Sub-district. The research tool was an in-depth interview form and Group discussion was carried out in this study. The collected data were analyzed by content analysis technique.

The results of the research found that:

  1. Area context and creative products from wisdom in resource utilization in community areas, Phu Khao Thong Sub-district, the Palm Leaf Pla Ta Pian group consisting of background, development, experiences, values, problems, and modern technology.
  2. The process of developing the Palm Leaf Pla Ta Pian products in Phu Khao Thong Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, consisted of new product development ideas, the process of transferring knowledge in production process or process of making a new technology, materials, or form product concept development process, prototype product development, product testing and market testing. In terms of putting products into the market, it comprised production planning, determining the selling price, break-even point, evaluating the situation in terms of marketing, and customers and technology used in the beginning.

3. Guidelines for product design of the Palm Leaf Pla Ta Pian products in Phu Khao Thong Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province consisted of the existence of the product, preserving and maintaining the value of traditional local wisdom, processing into other products by applying modern techniques in conjunction with the concept of local wisdom,  future model of the Palm Leaf Pla Ta Pian products, major problems and obstacles in the development of the Palm Leaf Pla Ta Pian products
