Abstract

This research aims to study the inheritance of Thonburi lion head patterns and the development of lion dance costumes in the COVID-19 era. The research objectives are: To study the inheritance of Thonburi lion head patterns To develop lion dance costumes for the Thonburi lion dance troupe in the COVID-19 era The research methodology includes data collection, literature review, data synthesis, and data analysis.

                 Research Findings Inheritance of Thonburi Lion Head Patterns The research found that the inheritance of Thonburi lion head patterns in the Talad Plu community, Thonburi district, can be traced back to the reign of King Taksin the Great. Chinese immigrants brought the art of lion dance with them when they settled and traded in the area. Since then, the lion dance has been passed down to the present day. Mr. Wichai Rotked, a local expert in handicrafts and fine arts, is the current inheritor of Thonburi lion head patterns. There are two main types of lion heads: Emperor Lion Head: This type of lion head has a special feature: the facial features of the lion are decorated with auspicious Chinese animals. Guan Yu Lion Head: This type of lion head is another type of ancient lion head. It has a special feature: the head of the lion is decorated with the image of a deity, such as Guan Yu, or the colors of the characters from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms are used to create the patterns.Development of Lion Dance Costumes for the Thonburi Lion Dance Troupe in the COVID-19 Era The research analyzed the concepts and theories related to costume design for performance, focusing on the "Golden Mean". The design of the lion dance costumes for the Thonburi lion dance troupe focuses on comfort, flexibility, and modernity. The design based on the concepts and theories is outstanding and eye-catching, and the size is appropriate for the performance. The costumes can be used as a prototype for lion dance performances in the COVID-19 era for other lion dance troupes in Thonburi.
