QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE ELDERLY THAI NUNS RATTANAPHAIBOON NUNNERY, BANGKOK

Abstract

The purpose of this cross-sectional survey research was aimed at studying the quality of life for the elderly Thai nuns in Rattanaphaiboon Nunnery, Bangkok. The sample of this study consisted of 173 Thai nuns aged between 60-74 years old. Data were collected by using questionnaires during 19th June – 23rd July 2023. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi-square analysis, and Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient statistics. The research results found that the overall quality of life for Thai elderly nuns was at a high level of 43.82%, a moderate level of 42.33%, and a low level of 13.85%. The health service was positively correlated with the quality of life for the elderly Thai nuns with r = 0.343, which was statistically significant (P-value<0.05) and social support had a value of r=0.321, which was statistically significant positively correlated with the quality of life for the elderly Thai nuns (P-value<0.05).

The results of this study are recommended to be applied, developed, and improved on the management and access to health services of elderly Thai nuns to deserve to have a health check before the general public. As for social support, it should be supported by both the public and private sectors in terms of factors, things, and information, along with staff to facilitate an everyday life.
