This research article aims to: 1) examine the principles and concepts of Buddhist art conservation in Si Thep Historical Park, Phetchabun Province; 2) analyze relevant Buddhist doctrines applicable to the conservation of Buddhist art; and 3) propose a Buddhist-integrated model for Buddhist art conservation. The study employs a qualitative research methodology, drawing upon documentary analysis and in-depth interviews with key informants. Data were analyzed using inductive content analysis.
The findings indicate that the conservation of Buddhist art in Si Thep Historical Park extends beyond physical preservation, encompassing religious and cultural value dimensions that are closely connected to the community’s way of life. The Four Bases of Success (Iddhipāda 4)– chanda (aspiration), viriya (perseverance), citta (attentiveness), and vīmaṃsā (critical reflection)–provide a systematic explanatory framework for understanding the internal dynamics of the conservation process, particularly in terms of motivation, sustained effort, focused engagement, and reasoned evaluation. The study proposes a “Holistic Four-Dimensional Buddhist-Integrated Conservation Model,” consisting of: 1) the physical dimension, 2) the social and community dimension, 3) the spiritual dimension, and 4) the management dimension. Buddhist principles function as a normative analytical framework that bridges religious values with contemporary heritage management practices. This body of knowledge contributes to expanding the discourse on Buddhist art conservation by integrating ethical and cultural dimensions into heritage studies.
