Legal Mechanisms for Sustainable Water Management: Water Security for the stability of Thai society

This academic article aims to analyze legal mechanisms for sustainable water management under the framework of “water security,” linking water resources administration to the stability of Thai society. By examines relevant laws, UN-Water concepts, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Thailand’s 20 - Year National Strategy (2018 – 2037), the study reveals that water security constitutes the foundation for economic security, social security, and the public’s quality of life.
Furthermore, this article highlights critical limitations within current legal mechanisms, specifically regarding jurisdictional redundancy among relevant agencies and challenges in policy integration. Consequently, the author proposes the development of legal mechanisms that establish water security as the core principle of water resources management, this approach aims to foster a coherent alignment between the sustainability of natural resources and the security of Thai society.
