Abstract

This research article aimed to: 1) examine the effects of an innovative learning approach using the Supply Chain Simulation Game (Beer Game) on students’ learning achievement in terms of knowledge and systems understanding of logistics and supply chain management; 2) investigate its effects on the development of students’ teamwork skills, data-driven decision-making, and systems thinking; and 3) evaluate students’ satisfaction and suggestions regarding the activity.This study employed a quasi-experimental design in combination with classroom action research. The sample consisted of 65 first-year transfer students enrolled in the Bachelor of Management Program in Modern Management, majoring in Logistics Management, who registered for course 1503230 Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The participants were selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included pre-test and post-test assessments, a rubric for evaluating teamwork and learning processes, game performance record sheets, reflection forms, and a satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean, standard deviation, and percentage, together with content analysis.
The findings revealed that: 1) the use of the Beer Game markedly improved students’ learning achievement, with post-test mean scores higher than pre-test scores in both overall performance and individual dimensions, particularly in understanding system variables, time delays, goods in transit, and the bullwhip effect; 2) students demonstrated strong development in teamwork, role allocation, responsibility, communication, the use of data for decision-making, and the ability to explain systemic causes, indicating that the simulation effectively enhanced systems thinking and decision-making under conditions of limited information and time constraints; and 3) students reported a high level of overall satisfaction with the Beer Game activity, noting that it helped them understand logistics and supply chain systems more clearly and that the debriefing session and the use of dashboard data for result analysis were especially valuable.
