KNOWLEDGE SET AND NEW METHOD OF DEVELOPING CHINESE SKILL FOR ELDERLY AGE BETWEEN 60 – 69 YEARS TO SUPPORT CHINESE TOURIST IN WAT PAYOON COMMUNITY, KUDIJEEN COMMUNITY AND WAT KANLAYA COMMUNITY BANGKOK

Abstract

This research article aims to 1) survey the need for Tourism Chinese skills of the community elderly, 2) create an innovative, simple knowledge set that is easy to train with, 3) test the innovative knowledge set and process as well as assess performance, pattern and content. This article used a mixed research approach, and the same group consisted of 30 senior citizens aged between 60-69 years living in the target community, selected by convenience. Key informants were 30 community leaders, community representatives, and senior citizen representatives from Wat Prayurawong, Kudijeen and Wat Kanlaya communities. The tools used in this study were a survey form and group discussion question. Data was collected from documents, survey and group discussion. Statistics used in this study were percentage, mean and standard deviation. Descriptive analysis was performed on the data and revealed that 1) the need to develop Chinese language skills for community tourism consisted of general information, knowledge about the community, and listening-speaking were the most in need parts. In addition, questions that were consistent with the elderly’s background and experience will improve attractiveness. 2) The innovative knowledge set was easy to practice, meeting the needs of the community and the elderly. Trials were carried out through a language training program for the elderly, and the knowledge set was given the highest rating. 3) Trials showed that the innovative knowledge set and process could be used as a model for other communities to accommodate Chinese tourists in their own contexts.
