POLICY PROPOSALS RELATED TO THE FUTURE OF MATHEMATICS EDUCATION IN THAILAND

Abstract

Mathematics Education in Thailand. By using the method of studying relevant documents and Ethnographic Delphi Futures Research (EDFR), which will be in-depth interviews and questionnaires of seventeen experts from the purposive sampling. The research tools were the Open-ended questionnaire and the Delphi questionnaire. The statistics used in the research were median, interquartile range and content analysis. The result as following : 1) The Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST) should be the main agency and co-operate with the agencies responsible for Basic Education Commission, Office of the Teacher Civil Service and Educational Personnel Commission (OTEPC) and the Teachers' Council of Thailand (Khurusapha) managing mathematics education. 2) the mathematics curriculum should be a core curriculum to set guidelines for the same standard and how to integrate the mathematics curriculum into the local or school curriculum. 3) the Ministry of Education, the agencies responsible for Basic Education Commission, IPST, and OTEPC work together to develop teachers' understanding of learning mathematics as well as supporting and monitoring the movement of professional learning communities (PLC) of teachers, including allocating time and workload in schools to supporting teacher. and 4) that learning outcomes’ decision in educational institutions should be considered from improving of learners. Which the agencies responsible for Basic Education Commission and IPST should determine Guidelines or learner assessment form to emphasize of assessment between learning for learners to demonstrate thinking skill and other skills by teachers using suitable measurement tools and variety.
