AN ONLINE PROGRAM FOR ENGLISH TEACHING SKILL DEVELOPMENT IN THE DIGITAL AGE FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING PROGRAM OF MAHAMAKUT BUDDHIST UNIVERSITY

Abstract

This one-group pretest-posttest research aims to 1) develop an online program to enhance English teaching skills for English Language Teaching Program of Mahamakut Buddhist University, 2) assess the effectiveness of the online program based on the results of the field trial study, and 3) to identify suggestions from the lessons learned for improving the online program. The study population consisted of an experimental group of 4 English Language Teaching Program lecturers (Isan Campus) and a reference group of 30 English Language Teaching Program lecturers at Mahamakut Buddhist University. The research instruments comprised (1) teacher training tests, (2) student learning skill assessment forms. Statistics used for data analysis encompassed mean, percentage, standard deviation and t-test. The study results found that the project manuals have met the 90/90 standard: the experimental group’s mean score from the learning outcome post-test after completing the program of the experimental group was found to be 93.43. The content presentation in each project manual was effective teacher development based on the specified criteria. It was also found that 93.75 percent of the experimental group participants passed all criteria based on learning objectives, which signifies that the project manuals used clear language with attractive content presentation, academic correctness, and logical order presentation for self-study. The overall mean scores from student learning skill assessment were found to be 4.62 with the standard deviation of 0.40.
