AREA MANAGEMENT MODELS TO PROMOTE HISTORICAL TOURISM ACTIVITIES AT WAT PRAYURAWONGSAWAS WORAWIHAN, BANGKOK

Abstract

This research aims to: 1) Explore the essence and components of historical elements of the area to enhance tourism at Wat Prayurawongsawas Worawihan, 2) Design the relationship between the physical and historical stories of the area for Wat Prayurawongsawas Worawihan tourism, and 3) Manage the area to promote historical tourism activities of at Wat Prayurawongsawas Worawihan. This qualitative research drawn from textbooks, books, and historical documents and examines both the people and ancient sites and ancient sites and artifacts associated with Wat Prayurawongsawas, with an emphasis on its historical significance. The research findings indicate that 1) Wat Prayurawongsawas is a temple of historical and cultural significance. Important Key features include the Phra Borommathat Mahachedi, the Ubosot, the Phra Wihan Phra Phuttha Nak, and Khao Mo, which reflect a blend of Thai and Chinese art. 2) The design of Wat Prayurawongsawas Worawihan embodies the connection between the physical structure and historical narrative through its prominent features, including the Phra Borommathat Mahachedi, a large round chedi with and inverted bell shape, standing 60.525 meters tall, with a circumference of 162 meters and a diameter of 50 meters. There lower level of the main chedi features 45 surrounding niches, and the upper level holds 18 smaller chedis encircling the main chedi, showcasing the architectural style of that period. and 3) The management of the area of ​​Wat Prayurawongsawas Worawihan emphasizes the restoration and conservation of significant historical sites, such as the Phra Borommathat Mahachedi and Ubosot, to ensure their beauty and safety for tourists. The development of tourist routes within the temple aims to educate Visitors about the history through clear information signs and maps, as well as descriptions of historical events and festivals to enhance visitor interest.
