THE DEVELOPMENT OF BUDDHIST CITIZENSHIP TO ENCHANCE SOCIAL PROTECTION IN PHATTHALUNG PROVINCE

Abstract

This research article aims to analyze Buddhist citizenship in enhancing social protection, develop Buddhist citizenship to strengthen social protection in Phatthalung province, and establish networks for developing Buddhist citizenship in promoting social protection in Phatthalung province. This is a qualitative research study that analyzes documents and interviews 22 key informants selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments include structured
in-depth interviews, and the collected data were analyzed through descriptive content analysis. The findings indicate that Buddhist citizenship in enhancing social protection is characterized by outstanding moral and ethical qualities, as well as social responsibility. Buddhist principles
are integrated into strengthening the stability and quality of life of the people, aligning with social protection as a process to ensure security for vulnerable groups, the working-age population,and the elderly, while promoting social equity. The development of Buddhist citizenship in enhancing social protection in Phatthalung province includes creating a foundation for self-reliance based on the philosophy of sufficiency economy, promoting well-being through health funds, sports city projects, and employment measures for the elderly. Education is emphasized to instill morality, social responsibility, and lifelong learning opportunities while addressing environmental disparities through fostering awareness of equitable resource utilization. The establishment of Buddhist citizenship networks involves developing leadership, fostering community awareness, and expanding membership through collaboration among communities, temples, and various organizations.
