Abstract

The purposes of this research were: 1) To examine the effect of transformational leadership on organizational effectiveness among Bangkok Metropolitan Administration executives, and 2) To investigate the effect of transformational leadership on organizational effectiveness through job satisfaction serving as the mediating variable among Bangkok Metropolitan Administration executives. 406 Bangkok Metropolitan Administration executives who are ordinary Bangkok civil servants at the executive level, director level, senior level of general positions, and over senior professional level of academic positions were the samples of this research. Multi-stage sampling was applied to recruit those samples from all government agencies under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. Quantitative method research was adopted, and a questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale was developed as a research instrument to collect data. For data analysis, structural equation modelling was embraced to test research hypotheses, coupled with descriptive analysis. The results revealed that: 1) Transformational leadership had a direct positive effect on organizational effectiveness at statistical significance of the 0.05 level. It could be said that when the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration executives had a high level of perceived transformational leadership, organizational effectiveness of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration would be highly affected, and 2) Transformational leadership had a indirect positive effect on organizational effectiveness through a mediating variable of job satisfaction at statistical significance of the 0.05 level. It could be implied that job satisfaction of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration executives was a result of perceived transformational leadership, which influenced organizational effectiveness. In conclusion, job satisfaction was a mediating variable that could function as a complementary partial mediator of the effect of transformational leadership on organizational effectiveness.
