STRATEGIES FOR ENHANCING THE SUCCESS OF COOPERATIVE AND WORK-INTEGRATED LEARNING

Abstract

Strategies for Enhancing the Success of Cooperative and Work-Integrated Learning. This qualitative research aims to develop strategies for enhancing the success of cooperative education and work-integrated learning. The study employed purposive sampling, selecting 10 undergraduate students enrolled in programs that implement cooperative and work-integrated education, and 5 experts and administrators with experience in managing and overseeing such programs at the undergraduate level. Data were collected through in-depth interviews using an interview guide and analyzed using a strategy appropriateness evaluation form. The findings revealed five key strategies for enhancing the success of cooperative and work-integrated education: 1) Establishing collaboration with enterprises and industries - encouraging industry participation in curriculum design and evaluation of teaching and learning outcomes. 2) Designing flexible curricula that respond to labor market needs - integrating both theory and practice to develop skills aligned with labor market demands. 3) Ongoing evaluation and expert guidance-continuous assessment by both academic instructors and industry partners throughout the cooperative education period. 4) Promoting teamwork skills and networking opportunities-providing opportunities for students to collaborate with experienced professionals, enhancing teamwork and professional networks. And 5) Developing social and environmental responsibility-encouraging students to participate in community service and environmental conservation activities with non-profit organizations. These five strategies contribute to creating a learning environment that connects academic education with real-world work experience, fosters essential skills for students to prepare for the workforce, and promotes long-term responsibility toward society and the environment.
