BUDDHISM AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE DEVELOPING THE MIND IN THE DIGITAL AGE
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article, “Buddhism and Artificial Intelligence: Developing the Mind in the Digital Age,” aims to study and analyze the profound relationship between Buddhism and artificial intelligence in the context of mental development amidst the digital age. Currently, artificial intelligence plays a leading and driving role in human life. The speed and intelligence of these technologies, while providing extreme convenience, also accelerate the human mind’s susceptibility to anxiety, attachment, and the loss of self-awareness due to being drawn to virtual worlds and fleeting stimuli. Therefore, incorporating Buddhist principles to create balance is essential. Even with the evolution of artificial intelligence capable of mimicking intelligent logical thinking and processing, one thing it cannot access is the luminous mind and inner awareness-the source of loving-kindness, compassion, and liberation according to Buddhist teachings. The application of the Threefold Training (Tri-Sikha)-morality, concentration, and wisdom-is used as a shield and tool to elevate the minds of humans in the digital age, enabling them to understand the deceptive tactics of algorithms that manipulate desires. Developing the mind in the digital age does not mean rejecting advanced technology. Rather, it is about learning to use objects with a mind that transcends them, integrating Buddhist principles with the science of artificial intelligence, and realizing that the most excellent tool for ending suffering is not in any operating system, but in training one’s own mind to attain true wisdom, in order to live peacefully and sustainably in a rapidly changing technological world.
