Results of Individual Counseling Program for Parents to Enhance Early Intervention for Children with Special Needs in the Central Special Education Center, Bangkok

This research article aimed (1) to examine the effect of using the individual counseling program for parents to enhance early intervention for children with disabilities, and (2) to examine the satisfaction of the individual counseling program among parents. The one-group pretest-posttest design was implemented in the research. The research sample was obtained by purposively selecting parents who participated in the individual counseling program in the Central Special Education Center, totaling 10 parents. The duration of the training was 18 hours. The Research instruments used in the research consisted of a comprehensive knowledge assessment, skill assessment, attitude assessment, and satisfaction assessment. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, which included the mean, standard derivation, and t-test. The result showed that the effect of using the individual counseling program for parents to enhance early intervention for children with disabilities had the average posttest score higher than average pretest scores with statistical significance at the .01 level. They had a very good level of early intervention skill. The post-training attitude was significantly higher than before training at the .01 level. The satisfaction level with the individual counseling program for parents to enhance early intervention for children with disabilities was at its highest level. Examining by dimension, the highest average score among satisfaction dimensions was the content of the individual counseling program for parents to enhance early intervention, the learning process in training, and the application of knowledge to use in the Enhance Early Intervention, respectively.
