23.5 When the Earth is Spinning Around: Femininity, Masculinity, and Sexual Relation in Lesbian Literature

Abstract

The purpose of this research article is to analyze the femininity, the masculinity of characters and to analyze the sexual relation of characters in lesbian literary work entitled 23.5 when the Earth is Spinning Around. This was qualitative documentary research and presented in descriptive analysis. Research tools were Femininity and Masculinity by Doyle (1991 cited in Meechoke Ratsaranuwat, 2544) and Sexuality by Jackson and Scott (1996 cited in Orathai Piayura, 2561). The result found that the femininity of characters in lesbian literary work entitled 23.5 when the Earth is Spinning Around had 2 characteristics were sensitive and taking care of lovers. Masculinity found 3 characteristics were 1) weak in body and mind 2) attractive and 3) showing love openly. The gender relation of characters in lesbian literary work entitled 23.5 When the Earth is Spinning Around found that 4 characteristics were 1) sexual orientation 2) sexual practice 3) discourse for having sex and sexual attitude that divided into 2 types were conventional and modern attitude.
