The Development of Desirable Characteristics According to The Principle of Sufficiency Economy of Students at Bankhokmamuang School Under Surat - Thani Primary Educational Service Area Office 3

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to (1) study the current state of desirable characteristics of students, and (2) study guidelines for developing desirable characteristics according to the philosophy of Sufficiency Economy of students at Bankokmamuang School. This qualitative research involves informants including 9 teachers, 1 student affairs officer, 1 school board member, 2 student parents, and 2 student committee members. Data collection tools used includes in-depth interviews and focus group assessments, analyzed using inductive statistics. The research results found that: The current desirable characteristics of students are generally practiced, but some aspects are not fully understood, are inconsistently practiced, and lack sustainability. The school promotes these characteristics through integrated activities across all subject areas to foster comprehensive understanding of all desirable traits. The guidelines for developing desirable characteristics based on the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy for students at Bankokmamuang School include: 1) instilling values of patriotism, religion, and monarchy, 2) cultivating honesty, 3) promoting discipline, 4) encouraging a love for learning, 5) fostering self-sufficiency, 6) enhancing a commitment to work, 7) instilling a love for Thai identity, and 8) nurturing a sense of public-mindedness. The principles of the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy are further detailed with three main components: 1) fostering moderation, 2) encouraging reasonableness, and 3) building resilience. These are supported by two conditions: 1) understanding the conditions of knowledge, and 2) understanding the conditions of morality. The approach emphasizes using a quality cycle in all operational steps.
