The necessity and requirement for professional social workers in educational institutions: A case study of secondary schools under the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) in Pattani province

Abstract

This research article aims to study (1) knowledge and understanding of educational personnel towards having social workers in educational institutions, (2) the role of social workers in educational institutions and (3) the necessity and importance of having social workers in educational institutions. This research is qualitative research. The target group is personnel in educational institutions in Pattani Province. Under the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), totaling 12 people. The instrument used for data collection is interview form. And using open-ended questions to allow the sample to express their opinions freely. and analyze the data in a descriptive .The results of the study found that 1) Knowledge and understanding of educational personnel regarding the presence of social workers in educational institutions by educational institution administrators, homeroom teachers, guidance teachers, and administrative teachers Have knowledge and understanding about social workers as a profession whose duties include helping, solving problems, and giving advice to people experiencing social problems and various target groups. 2) The role of social workers is important to educational institutions and helps promote the educational system in solving student problems that occur in educational institutions, which complements the work of teachers. 3) The necessity and importance of having social workers in educational institutions. From the data, it is found that social workers are important and necessary for educational institutions if they are truly pushed for which is to push for social workers in educational institutions It is necessary to receive support from the Social Work Professional Council and the Ministry of Education. The suggestion is that the social work profession should promote awareness and see the importance of the role of social workers in educational institutions. If a social worker position is not available Bringing teachers into training on the role and process of providing social work assistance may be a good option to help, correct, treat, rehabilitate and stop problems occurring in educational institutions.
