Learning Management by Using Herbart Method with Educational Applications to Develop English Communication Skills for Grade 5 Students

Abstract

This research article aims to (1) compare the English communication skills before and after the learning management using the Herbart Method combined with educational applications for fifth-grade students, and (2) study the satisfaction of fifth-grade students regarding the learning management using the Herbart Method in conjunction with educational applications. This study is experimental research, targeting 20 fifth-grade students from Bantasom School, Kantang District, Trang Province, under the Trang Primary Educational Service Area Office 2, selected by purposive sampling. The data collection instruments include: (1) the educational application titled My Beloved Country, (2) a learning management plan using the Herbart Method, (3) a test to measure English communication skills, and (4) a questionnaire assessing the satisfaction of fifth-grade students regarding the learning management. The statistics used for data analysis include mean, standard deviation, and dependent t-test. The study results indicate that 1) the development of English communication skills of fifth-grade students after the learning management was significantly higher than before at the .05 level, and 2) fifth-grade students had a high level of satisfaction with the learning management.
