Abstract

This qualitative action research aimed to develop and assess the perceptions of well-being promotion activities for older adults in Nakhon Nayok Province. The target group consisted of 407 members from four older adult clubs. Forty participants were purposively selected for in-depth interviews, 40 for activity trials, and 80 for evaluation. Research instruments included three well-being promotion activity plans and two sets of semi-structured interview guidelines, all validated by experts with IOC values of 0.67 or higher. Data collection involved five steps: 1) studying living conditions and assessing needs, 2) analyzing and designing activities, 3) piloting and refining, 4) implementing activities, and 5) assessing older adults' perceptions. Data analysis employed descriptive content analysis. The findings revealed that older adults were categorized into three groups: farmers, small business owners, and retirees. They faced four obstacles: travel limitations, boredom from staying at home, health constraints, and lack of information. They expressed needs for three types of activities: music and singing, traditional Thai dance (Ramwong) and folk dancing, and recreational games. Based on these needs, three activities were developed: “Fun Cards: Flip the Card, Flip the Game,” “Songs of Yesteryear: Tales of Memory,” and “Ramwong for Happiness: Health Can Be Built,” each lasting 60 minutes and covering all four dimensions of well-being. Perceptions of the activities were positive across all dimensions, with participants reporting improvements in physical, mental, social, and intellectual well-being. Suggestions included enlarging font size on cards, using microphones for clearer hearing, and adapting dance moves to individual physical conditions. This research demonstrates that developing activities tailored to the needs and constraints of older adults can promote holistic well-being and has the potential for sustainable implementation.
