An Analysis of “Glory to Our Great Kings” Composed by Nat Yontararak

Abstract

This research is an analysis of Glory to Our Great Kings, composed by Nat Yontararak, with the primary objectives to study the structure of the musical composition and analyze the concept and methods of incorporating the song in public relations, as well as the techniques used in the development of melody, program music, and piano accents of Thai classical music.
According to the results, it is evident that the musical composition of Glory to Our Great Kings resembles the sonata form, with a classical music style that differs from the traditional style of music. The main element of this composition is its primary melody that was taken from three musical compositions of the Kings of Thailand, consisting of Bulan Loy Luen (Rama II), Falling Rain, and Maha Chulalongkorn (Rama IX). The primary melodies were generally presented in a straightforward manner, in correspondence to the original songs. Melodic development uses octave and adds harmony sound in order to make the sound fullier.
In addition, other interesting elements are also apparent, including the program music that evokes the rainy atmosphere in accordance with the song, Falling Rain, and the piano accents that replicate the accent of ranad.
