Abstract

The inheritance of the identity of Tai labors’ Klong Kon Yao playing in Rayong Province is the quantitative research. The purposes of the study were 1) to study Tai’ transmission in Rayong Province 2) to collect the data of Tai Association in Rayong Province and 3) to study Tai’s Klong Kon Yao playing in Rayong Province. The data were collected from the documents and in-depth interview from 38 people. They were analyzed by ethnomusicology theory. The results of the study were that Tai Association established by Tai from the Shan State in Myanmar was the first association in Thailand. It aimed to show the social dynamics, especially their art culture in local society. Klong Kon Yao ensemble was played to express the propitiousness in the religious ceremonies and social activities. It consisted of Klong Kon Yao that created various rhythms, Mong that controlled the rhythms and Sang that played in the harmony with the Klong Kon Yao. The way of playing was the improvising style. Its aesthetics was joyful. There were three forms of playing Klong Kon Yao : basic rhythmic creating, melody creating and group melody creating. The group melody creating ended clearly. The rhythm patterns of playing Klong Kon Yao were diminishing rhythm and quick rhythm. While playing Klong Kon Yao accompanied with Kingkala
dance , the players used the quick rhythms for the performers’ postures. In the other hand, the players used the slow rhythms for Kapankong dance
