The Influence of Absorptive Capacity on Business Performance: The Mediating Role of Dynamic Capabilities in Tour Operators and Travel Agencies
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to examine the direct influence of absorptive capacity on business performance and dynamic capabilities, as well as to investigate the mediating role of dynamic capabilities in the relationship between absorptive capacity and business performance among tour operators and travel agencies. This research employed a quantitative research design. The sample consisted of 351 entrepreneurs and executives of tour operators and travel agencies in Bangkok, selected through simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency and percentage, and inferential statistics, including Pearson correlation analysis, Ordinary Least Squares regression analysis, and the Sobel test.
The findings revealed that absorptive capacity had a positive and statistically significant influence on both dynamic capabilities and business performance. In addition, dynamic capabilities had a positive and statistically significant influence on business performance. The results of the mediation analysis further indicated that dynamic capabilities partially mediated the relationship between absorptive capacity and business performance. These findings suggest that firms capable of effectively acquiring, learning from, and utilizing external knowledge are more likely to enhance their adaptability, innovation capability, and resource reconfiguration, which subsequently contribute to improved business performance. The findings can be applied as a guideline for entrepreneurs and executives of tour operators and travel agencies in developing organizational knowledge, utilizing digital technology, and strengthening business competitiveness in the digital era in a sustainable manner.
