Knowledge on Physical Activity of Elderly Monks in Sisaket Province

Abstract

          This research aimed to study knowledge on physical activity of elderly monks in Sisaket province of Thailand. The sample was 530 elderly Buddhist monks who were 50-69 years old (69.63±7.11 years old). They were selected by using simple random sampling and accidental sampling. The instrument to gather data was the developed questionnaire. Data analysis was accomplished by using frequency, percentage, means and standard deviation. The result found that knowledge on physical activity of the elderly monks in Sisaket province was moderately level (  = 10.23, S.D. = 1.68). Considering each aspect, it was found that the elderly monks had right knowledge about “hand-washing help for exerting” (96.2); “go on an alms round is the physical activity for health promotion” (94.7%); “the physical activity help for relaxing” (94.0); and “the person who usually exercise can work for a long time more than no exercise person and less tired than no exercise person too (92.6).

          In summary, the elderly monks in Sisaket province should be supported the right knowledge regarding physical activity.
