The Application of Sārānīyadhamma for Promoting the Unity in Daily Life of the People in Wat Pradu Community, Padang Terrup District, Kedah, Malaysia

Abstract

              The purpose of this research were: 1) To study the concept and character of unity of Wat Pradu community, Padang Terrup District, Kedah State, Malaysia, 2) To study the Sārānīyadhamma appearing in Theravada Buddhist scriptures, and 3) To apply the Sārānīyadhamma to promote unity in the life of the Wat Pradu community, Padang Terrup District, Kedah State, Malaysia. It is qualitative research, focuses on document studies.
              The research results found that:
              1. The Unity is an expression of unison, community cooperation Which creates goodness and benefits that are good for everyone equally.
              2. The Sārānīyadhamma is a principle of mutual remembrance that promotes the unity of the community as follows: 1) Mettā-Kāya-Kamma (treating each other with kindness) 2) Mettā-wajī-kamma (speaking to each other with kindness) 3) Mettā-mano-kamma (thinking towards each other with kindness) compassion), 4) Sāthārana Bhogī (shared mind), 5) Sila Sāmanyatā (discipline), and 6) Ditthi Sāmanyatā (same opinion).
              3. Wat Pradu community has applied the Mettā-Kāya-Kamma promotes body harmony. The Mettā-wajī-kamma promotes unity in verbal karma, Mettā-mano-kamma promotes unity in conceptualism, Sāthārana Bhogī promotes unity in volunteerism, The Sila Sāmanyatā promotes unity in Discipline, Ditthi Sāmanyatā promotes unity in Opinions.
