Ideology of Male Homosexuality Represented in February Sea’s Works

Abstract

             This research aimed to investigate the ideology of male homosexuality represented in the literary works of February Sea published on the ReadAWrite platform. The study encompassed five selected works: 1) Ashtray, 2) Until Dawn, 3) Memories in the Sunlight, 4) Smoke Shadows, and 5) Lucky in Love. This qualitative study employed structured textual and content analysis to examine the ideologies of male homosexuality, emphasizing critical interpretation and the decoding of latent meanings through the lenses of Queer Theory and Judith Butler’s Gender Theory.
             The findings indicated that:
             The five works by February Sea reproduced three mainstream ideologies of male homosexuality prevalent in Thai society: 1) the lack of social acceptance, 2) expressions of identity that deviated from established social norms, and 3) a preoccupation with romanticism and sexuality. The study demonstrated the capacity of literature to challenge gendered "normalcy" while simultaneously reflecting the existential constraints faced by gay men within a social structure profoundly rooted in patriarchal heteronormativity.
