Abstract

             This research aims to and analyze study Machiavelli's concept of using "evil" to achieve "goodness" This study employs a qualitative approach using documentary research, drawing on Machiavelli’s writings and related academic sources. The data were analyzed and the findings are are presented in the form of a descriptive analysis according to the research objectives.
             The research results are as follows:
             1. Machiavelli's concept of using "evil" to achieve "goodness" ultimately reflects a view of the political world that is realistic and unadorned by traditional ideals or ethics. In his concept, maintaining state security and power are the goals.
             2. Machiavelli’s concept of using “evil” reflects the complexity of political reality of the complex political world, which cannot always rely onabsolute moral principles. Machiavelli sees that maintaining state power and security is the most important thing, and the use of unethical methods may be a necessary tool to achieve this result. His concept is consistent with authoritarian and realpolitik governance, but is not consistent with governance based on the principles of justice and natural freedom.
