Copyright in Instructional Materials Created by the Faculty Members

Abstract

This study aims to examine copyright policies in higher education institutions in Thailand and abroad, analyze challenges and considerations in policy formulation, and propose recommendations for improving clarity and efficiency in managing instructional material copyrights. The research employs document analysis and in-depth interviews with experienced faculty members involved in instructional material development. The findings reveal that many institutions' copyright policies lack clarity regarding the scope of work, institutional rights, and benefit-sharing mechanisms. This ambiguity affects motivation and collaboration in instructional material development and increases the risk of copyright disputes. The study recommends that higher education institutions review and revise their copyright policies to establish clear guidelines and practices, including fair and equitable benefit-sharing arrangements. Such measures will promote the creation and enhancement of high-quality instructional materials that align with the demands of the digital age.
