SEACAF 2026 CALL FOR THEMATIC RESEARCH PROPOSALS Academic freedom in Southeast Asia is under growing pressure—from democratic backsliding and state repression to the rising influence of market-driven education systems. Academics, students, and university communities continue to defend critical inquiry and freedom of expression despite risks like surveillance, censorship, and institutional constraints. To deepen understanding of these challenges, the Southeast Asia Coalition for Academic Freedom (SEACAF) invites researchers to submit proposals exploring how academic freedom is practiced and contested across the region. Selected researchers will also contribute to advocacy efforts through dialogues, seminars, and public engagement.
