Promotional Model of Democratic Citizenship Learning by Integrated Seven Rules of Good Man's Qualities (Seven Sappurisadhamma) in Buddhism for Students in Junior High School

Abstract

The research aims to study the learning situations that promote understanding of democratic citizenship for students in junior high school, to create a model, to assess learning efficiency and develop a promotional model for democratic citizenship learning, and to create a handbook of the promotional model for democratic citizenship learning by integrating Seven Rules of Good Man's Qualities (Seven Sappurisadhamma) in Buddhism for students in junior high school. Study is conducted through in-depth Interview, focus group discussion and workshop. Content analysis is used to analyze the qualitative data. The research findings are presented by descriptive analysis.


         Investigation on the learning situations promoting the democratic citizenship for students in the Provincial Administrative Organization II (Ban Don Kleang) reveals the existence of school policy and curriculum which promotes the learning of democratic citizenship both in class and at school level. Teachers play their roles in disseminating knowledge by emphasizing the processes in democratic ways with various activities through using media and appropriately managing learning environments. The C-PLUS Model has been created as the promotional model of democratic citizenship learning by integrated Seven Rules of Good Man's Qualities (Seven Sappurisadhamma) in Buddhism. The letter “C” stands for Citizenship for promoting citizenship. For the knowledge aspect, the letter “U” stands for Understanding integrated into the principle of cause and effect perception through the Buddhadasa studies program. For the attitude aspect, the letter “P” stands for Perspective integrated to the principle of time and sufficient perception through the Botanical Garden program. For the skill aspect, the letter “S” stands for Skills integrated to the principle of self, people and community perception through Students council activity. The letter “L” which stands for Learning is as an important mechanism to promote citizenship. Additionally, the handbook of the promotional model of democratic citizenship learning by integration of Seven Rules of Good Man's Qualities (Seven Sappurisadhamma) in Buddhism for students in junior high school was created and complied with the C-PLUS Model.
