PROMOTION OF THE VOLUNTEERING ROLES OF THE SANGHA IN PHRA NAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA PROVINCE

Abstract

This research aimed: 1. To study the general conditions of volunteer activities. 2. To study the components that promoted the role of volunteerism. 3. To propose methods to promote the role of volunteerism among the monks in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The research methodology was the qualitative method, involving in-depth interviewing 25 key informants and focus group discussions with 9 experts. The main research tool used was in-depth interview script and the data were analyzed by descriptive interpretation.

The research findings were as follow: 1. General conditions, the volunteer activities of the Sangha in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province were effective in promoting volunteerism and reaching out to the public. However, there were deficiencies in planning, budgeting, collaboration with various agencies, and encouraging public participation. There were ample opportunities for social assistance in various aspects, but the main obstacles were the lack of cooperation and insufficient Sangha personnel. 2. Process of promoting volunteerism consisted of 1. Role, Raising awareness Instilling volunteerism awareness through Buddhist principles. 2. Preparation; Preparing physically, mentally, knowledgeably, and communicatively. 3. Building confidence and skills; Enhancing necessary skills and confidence in volunteer work, including appreciating monks who excelled in volunteer activities. 4. Continuous Participation; Engaging in volunteer activities continuously and publicizing the monks, achievements in these activities. 3. Promoting Volunteer Roles: 1. Dedication and Commitment; Creating motivation and awareness of volunteerism, organizing various activities, and honoring volunteer monks. 2. Respect for Diversity; Encouraging open expression and knowledge exchange, team collaboration, and avoiding discrimination. 3. Considering Public Interest; Raising awareness of considering the public interest, developing skills and practices, and monitoring and evaluating the work. 4. Taking Action; Instilling the importance of volunteer work, enhancing skills and knowledge for the Sangha to perform the volunteering work efficiently.
