COMMUNICATING DHAMMA AND POLITICS TO THE NEW GENERATION ROYAL DIRECTION (PHRA PHAYOM KALYANO)

Abstract

This article explores the Dhamma communication of Phra Rajadhammanites (Phra Phayom Kallayano) with a focus on reaching the younger generation by integrating Dhamma principles with social and political issues. Using accessible language, humor, and relatable comparisons, Phra Phayom has adopted the dual roles of both a Dhamma preacher and a thought leader for a society seeking ethical guidance. His teachings not only convey religious ideas but also incorporate key Dhamma principles, such as the Four Bases of Social Harmony (Sangahavatthu 4) and the Five Precepts, to inspire young people to value virtues like honesty, responsibility, and sacrifice as essential foundations for building a sustainable society. Phra Phayom’s distinctive communication techniques make Dhamma more approachable and also foster social awareness and responsibility among youth. By connecting real-life situations with Dhamma principles, Phra Phayom brings Dhamma into daily life as a practical tool for addressing social challenges. His teachings encourage young people to find inspiration in doing good for the community and to engage in social and political participation with integrity. A new concept derived from this study is the “Application of Dhamma as a Tool for Promoting Social Sustainability through Ethical Political Participation and Individual Morality.” This concept emphasizes using Dhamma as a foundation for cultivating a sense of responsibility and honesty among citizens and leaders. Phra Phayom’s Dhamma communication not only enhances understanding of Dhamma principles but also encourages young people to contribute to building a just and sustainable society.
