BUDDHADHAMMA INTEGRATION FOR PEOPLE’S PARTICIPATORY POLITICAL CULTURE PROMOTION AT BANG KWAN SUB-DISTRICT, IN MUANG DISTRICT OF CHACHOENGSAO PROVINCE

This research article aims to: 1. examine the level of participatory political culture among citizens in Bang Khwan Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chachoengsao Province; 2. study the relationship between Buddhist principles and participatory political culture; and 3. propose an integrated approach to applying Buddhist principles to promote participatory political culture in the local context. The study employed a mixed-methods approach. The quantitative component used a questionnaire with a reliability score of 0.950, collecting data from 372 eligible voters. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The qualitative component involved in-depth interviews with 10 key informants.
The results revealed that the overall level of participatory political culture among the population was high. Hypothesis testing showed a strong positive correlation between Buddhist principles and participatory political culture (r = 0.708**) with statistical significance at the 0.01 level. The study proposes an integrated approach based on Saraniyadhamma (principles for harmonious living) to promote participatory political culture. This includes: 1. Metta-kayakamma – practicing ethical physical actions, 2. Metta-vacikamma – offering kind and constructive speech, 3. Metta-manokamma – cultivating positive thoughts, 4. Sadharanabhogi – prioritizing the common good, 5. Sila-samaggi – mutual respect for roles and responsibilities, and 6. Ditthi-samaggi – maintaining neutrality and open-mindedness.
