COMPETENCY PROMOTION FOR THE WORK PERFORMANCE OF ABBOTS AT MUANG ANG THONG DISTRICT, ANG THONG PROVINCE

Abstract

Objectives of this research paper were: 1. To Study the level of performance in promoting the operational competencies of abbots in Mueang Ang Thong District, Ang Thong Province. 2. To examine the relationship between management principles and Iddhipada 4 with the promotion of operational competencies of abbots, and 3. To propose guidelines for enhancing the operational competencies of abbots, conducted by the mixed-methods using both questionnaire and in-depth-interview. The sample group consisted of 165 monks in Mueang Ang Thong District, and key informants were 8 monastic administrators in Ang Thong Province. The statistical methods used included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Data from in-depth-interview were analyzed by descriptive interpretation.

The findings were as follows: 1. The level of performance according to management principles in promoting the operational competencies of abbots, by overall, was high, and the overall operational competency of abbots was also at high level. 2. The relationship between management principles and the promotion of operational competencies showed that at least one management principle had a positive relationship with promoting the operational competencies of abbots, thus accepting the set hypothesis. Similarly, Iddhipada 4 principle also had a positive relationship with the promotion of operational competencies, accepting the set hypothesis. 3. The guidelines for promoting the competencies of abbots included activities for knowledge exchange, training to enhance management skills, developing discipline and leadership, strengthening concentration, careful planning, analytical thinking, and fostering responsibility to build cooperation and trust within the community.
