VIPASSANA MEDITATION STUDIES: A SEMINAR ON NEW PERSPECTIVES

Abstract

This academic article aimed to explore the integration of seminar knowledge with the practice of Vipassana meditation, a mental training process grounded in Buddhist principles that emphasizes mindfulness,Sati, and the development of insight, Panya, into the true nature of reality. This approach represented an innovative form of contemplative education that deeply fosters mental quality and wisdom. Vipassana Seminar is not merely an academic activity, but rather a holistic learning platform that systemically connected intellectual exchange with internal training. Its strength lied in the design of a seminar process that combined both theoretical and practical dimensions, led by experienced instructors who facilitated the sharing of meditative experiences, mindful awareness, and guided meditation practices tailored to individual temperaments. The model also included a comparative study of five principal meditation traditions in Thailand: Buddho, Anapanasati mindfulness of breathing, Rising-Falling, pausing-expanding, Samma-Arahang, and Movement-based practices. This comprehensive structure allowed participants to gain a well-rounded understanding and select the method that best aligns with their nature. As a result, the process enhanced self-awareness, cultivated mental resilience, developed mindful leadership, fostered collaborative work, and supported ethical living. These outcomes can be applied at individual, organizational, and societal levels, contributing to the ultimate goal of liberation, in accordance with Buddhist teachings.
