CULTURAL TOURISM MANAGEMENT OF MONASTERIES AT PRAVES-SAPANSOONG DISTRICT BANGKOK

Abstract

Objectives of this research article were: 1. to study the level of cultural tourism management in temples located in Praves-Sapansoong districts of Bangkok 2. to investigate the factors affecting such management and
3. to propose appropriate management approaches for cultural tourism in the area. A mixed-methods research design was employed. The quantitative phase involved a questionnaire survey with a reliability coefficient of 0.986, administered to a sample of 399 people. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The qualitative phase involved in-depth interviews with 10 key informants, and data were analyzed using content analysis.

The findings revealed that 1. the overall public opinion on the cultural tourism management of temples in the area was at a high level. across all dimensions. 2. Regarding factors influencing management effectiveness, the application of the PDCA (Plan–Do–Check–Act) model had a statistically significant impact (p<0.01), with planning exerting the highest influence (Beta=0.533), followed by appropriate implementation (Beta=0.297), while acting and checking had lower yet still significant effects. However, the model accounted for a limited amount of variance (R²=0.010), indicating the influence of additional contextual factors. Similarly, all four principles of Sangahavatthu (virtues for social integration) significantly affected management effectiveness (p<0.01), with samanattata (impartiality) having the highest influence (Beta=0.509), followed by dana (generosity), atthacariya (helpfulness), and peyyavacca (kind speech). The model explained 2% of the variance (R²=0.020), again suggesting the role of external variables. 3. The proposed management approach should integrate the PDCA cycle with the principles of Sangahavatthu, emphasizing systematic planning, diverse media promotion, staff training, tourist-centered services, and community cooperation for safety and sustainability. Such integration will enhance tourist experiences and foster shared value creation for the surrounding communities.
