Abstract

Objectives of this research article were: 1. to study the level of political participation of the people in Sala Daeng Sub-District, Bang Nam Priao District, Chachoengsao Province; 2. to study the relationship between the principle of Aparihaniyadhamma and the political participation of the people in Sala Daeng Sub-District, Bang Nam Priao District, Chachoengsao Province; and 3. to present the application of Buddhist principles to promote political participation of the people in Sala Daeng Sub-District, Bang Nam Priao District, Chachoengsao Province. The research methodology was mixed-methods. The quantitative research, by collecting data from a sample of 343 people according to Taro Yamane’s formula using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient. The qualitative research, data were collected by In-depth interviewing were 10 key informants, divided into four groups: academics or practitioners in Buddhism, political science, community leaders, and the general public. Data were analyzed using descriptive content interpretation.

The results of the research were found that: 1. The overall level of opinions on the seven principles of Aparihaniyadhamma was at the highest level. 2. The relationship between Aparihaniyadhamma and political participation of the public was found to be statistically significant at 0.01, so the hypothesis was rejected. 3. The application of Buddhist principles for promoting political participation of the public in Sala Daeng Sub-District, Bang Nam Priao District, Chachoengsao Province was found that: 1. Meeting regularly 2. Meeting together and performing the duties that should be done 3. Not enacting things that have not been enacted and not canceling things that have already been enacted 4. Respecting elders 5. Not harassing or abusing women and respecting each other 6. Paying homage to pagodas 7. Give greetings to people with morality.
